Fumei Palace is dedicated to the renowned Western Han Dynasty minister, Xiao Wangzhi, also known as Xiao Ayi or Baiyun Gong. It is accompanied by the worship of twenty-four departments and the revered kings of both civil and military. Initially a local protector deity, it has gradually evolved into the only ‘Palace of the King’ in Quanzhou, with thriving incense and widespread spiritual influence.
Fumei Ancient Ferry was one of the important ferry points for overseas communication in ancient Quanzhou. It served as a crucial hub connecting the mainland with the maritime trade, and the nearby ‘Jubao Street’ was named after the foreign merchants who conducted trade during the Song and Yuan dynasties. In the Ming Dynasty, during the Yongle era (1405), a ‘Laiyi Posthouse’ was built in the nearby Cheqiao Village, specifically for receiving foreign envoys and guests. The southern part of the city remained the center of Quanzhou’s economic and financial activities during the Qing Dynasty.
