Fuxing Island Park is located in the eastern part of Yangpu District, downstream of the Huangpu River, 6 kilometers away from the mouth of Wusong. The park, originally a sports club garden, has a solid foundation of greenery. At the beginning of the park’s opening, it was enclosed with bamboo fences, and the pathways were made of coal cinders. Apart from a building belonging to the Shanghai Municipal Engineering Bureau, there were two thatched pavilions, a wooden wisteria trellis, and a few Japanese-style simple houses built by the Japanese army.

After 1980, the park added new landscape facilities such as a rest pavilion and wisteria trellis, and newly planted a large lawn area of nearly 10,000 square meters. The lawn is dotted with camphor trees in the center, and there is a pavilion at the southern end of the lawn, equipped with reinforced concrete tables and benches. North of the lawn is the former main building of the Shanghai Municipal Engineering Bureau’s sports club, a brick-wood structure with a platform in front.

To the west of it is another wisteria trellis. The central part of the park is the garden area, divided into east and west by garden paths, both retaining the Japanese-style garden style. The smaller eastern garden has a small mound with scattered stones and planted with evergreen spherical shrubs such as sea buckthorn and boxwood. Northwest of the mound is a ‘heart’-shaped small pond with a small island in the center and a flat bridge to the south of the pond.

The western garden features a wisteria corridor, a small lawn, and is surrounded by a osmanthus forest and shaded paths. The park is open all year round, accessible 24 hours a day.
