Fuxing Temple is located at the foot of Zhihuling, opposite the Xianghu Style Avenue and Xiubo Garden, and was built during the Ming Dynasty. According to the ‘Xiaoshan County Chronicles’: ‘Fuxing Temple is situated seven miles west of the county in Zhiwuling, and was constructed by Sun Xuesi during the Jiajing era of the Ming Dynasty.’ Sun Xuesi, who had a fondness for calligraphy from a young age, was known along with his brother Sun Xuegou as the ‘Twin Phoenixes of the Lake.
‘ The stone carving of the ‘Jia Ke Ji Mei Fang’ in Xiaoshan is a testament to Sun Xuesi’s calligraphy, which dates back 445 years. The central room of the temple is a soil and grain temple from the Southern Song Dynasty. In its prime, Fuxing Temple had more than twenty rooms, covering an area of 16.5 acres, with a picturesque lake and mountain view in front of the temple. Regrettably, it suffered destruction by the Japanese forces and further damage during the Cultural Revolution, with some temple buildings being demolished. It was only after the reform and opening up that the temple gradually recovered, and in 2005, it was renamed Fuxing Temple, achieving a ‘revival’.Fuxing Temple
