Cliff inscriptions are also one of the scenic spots in Gushan. According to records, there are 180 cliff inscriptions in Gushan. It is estimated that there are no less than 300 inscriptions on the whole mountain. There is a “Shou” (longevity) character engraved on the cliff wall under Heshui Rock. The diameter of the character is 4 meters and it was written by Zhu Xi, a great calligrapher of the Southern Song Dynasty.
Looking at the inscriptions in Gushan, they date from the Northern Song Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty and even to the contemporary era, spanning nearly a thousand years. The content is rich and the font styles include seal script, official script, running script, cursive script and regular script. Among them, there are the handwritings of Cai Xiang, Li Gang, Zhao Ruyu, Zhu Xi and others from the Song Dynasty. It can be regarded as the Fuzhou Forest of Stone Steles and has important reference value for the study of ancient Chinese calligraphy art. In Fuzhou city, there are also more than 100 cliff inscriptions from the Song Dynasty to the modern era at Aoding Peak, Qi Gongci, Penglai Peak, Jinsu Tai and other places. The inscribed stone with the title of Lu Wencu from the first year of Chunhua in the Northern Song Dynasty on Aoding Peak is more than 1,000 years old.Opening hours: Open from 07:00 – 17:30 throughout the year
