Fuzhou Earth Treasury Temple is located at the foot of Jinji Mountain outside the East Gate of Fuzhou. It is said to have been built in the first year of Datong of Emperor Wu of the Southern Dynasties’ Liang Dynasty (527 AD) and is one of the earlier Buddhist temples in Fujian Province.
The main buildings in the temple today include the Earth Treasury Hall, the Avalokitesvara Hall, the Hall of Patriarch Bodhidharma, the Maitreya Hall, the Skanda Hall, the Guardian Deity Hall, the Buddha Recitation Hall, the Wenchang Palace, etc. The layout is reasonable, and the halls are simple and unsophisticated, with a unique style.

The statue of the Earth Treasury Bodhisattva enshrined in the Earth Treasury Hall is in the image of Tang Seng. The paintings beside the dome caisson are all about the story of Tang Seng and his disciples going on a pilgrimage to the Western Paradise to obtain Buddhist scriptures. The colored paintings outside the hall are about stories in Romance of the Three Kingdoms such as “Riding Alone for a Thousand Li”, “Dingjun Mountain”, and “Hulaoguan Pass”.

After entering the hall, you will reach the Jade Buddha Building. There is a garden decorated with rocky mountains between the two halls, and there are towering camphor trees that block out the sun. The scenery is pleasant, quiet and beautiful.

Beside the Jade Buddha Building, there is a “Yonghuai Pavilion”. Inside the pavilion, there are the bone pagodas of Mingxu and Deqin, the first generation of Buddhist nuns who revived the temple, and a “Stele of the Deeds of Mingxu and Deqin” is erected to commemorate the noble virtues, legacies and great achievements of Master Mingxu and Master Deqin.

The specific business status of the opening hours is subject to the opening situation on the day.
