West Lake Park is located in the northwest of Fuzhou urban area. It has a long history of more than 1,700 years and is a well-preserved classical garden in Fuzhou. When it comes to West Lake, people often think of West Lake in Hangzhou. In fact, there are far more than one place named West Lake in China. Compared with West Lake in Hangzhou, Fuzhou West Lake is a bit inferior. Its water area is not comparable to that of Hangzhou West Lake.
West Lake Park is an old-fashioned urban center park. It is adjacent to the river and is a place for the elderly to do morning activities. There are eight scenic spots in the park, including the willow color by the fairy bridge, the sound of pine trees in Dameng, the ancient city wall in the setting sun, the first moon over the crystal lake, and the singing in the lotus pavilion at dusk. Literati and poets of past dynasties have praised it constantly and left many excellent works. Xie Zhaozhi of the Ming Dynasty praised in “An Evening Tour of West Lake”: “Ten miles of willows are like silk, and the lake view is even more wonderful in the evening.” Xin Qiji also wrote when visiting Fuzhou West Lake: “Misty rain is especially suitable, and it is even better when sunny. It’s like Xishi before she got married.” However, for an urban center park, you don’t have to search for specific scenic spots. It’s both time-consuming and energy-consuming, and simply a waste of time. You can just walk around in a quiet environment like the locals do and gain a peaceful mind.The area where the scenic spots are relatively concentrated is Kaihua Islet. North of the Yudai Bridge, there are buildings such as the Provincial Museum, the Art Exhibition Hall, and the West Lake Theater. West of the Feihong Bridge is the Children’s Paradise. Southwest of the Buyun Bridge, you can go to the zoo. If you want to include West Lake Park in your one-day tour itinerary, since it is not far from the Provincial Museum and Sanfang Qixiang, you can walk north from the park to the museum, take a tour, and then return to Sanfang Qixiang to play.
