From September 4th to 5th, 2016, the Hangzhou International Expo Center successfully hosted the 2016 G20 Summit. The main venue, Hangzhou International Expo Center, showcased the multifaceted impressions, local charm, and composed demeanor of Chinese civilization before the world leaders and international media with its grand, solid, and elegant design.
The summit’s reception area, themed around ‘etiquette’, is composed of three parts: the entrance corridor, reception hall, and reception hall, forming a traditional Chinese courtyard-style spatial system. Together, they form a strong and continuous reception sequence with a colonnade, conveying the millennia-old ‘hospitality’.
The summit’s main conference area, themed ‘harmony’, is located on the fourth floor of the building, covering an area of about 2000 square meters, and is a square space with a side length of 45 meters, reflecting the simple philosophy of ’round heaven and square earth’. The carpet features peonies and auspicious patterns, presenting a blue-green tone like ‘spring river water green as blue’, clusters of flowers, reflecting the proper balance of complexity and simplicity of Jiangnan sentiment.
The lunch banquet hall, themed ‘benevolence’, is reached by leaders through the stairs on both sides of the main venue to the fifth floor. The dome in the center features a starry sky, the middle ring is illuminated by natural light, and the outer ring is a five-layer closed superimposed ink landscape scroll, expressing the consensus of Eastern and Western cultures and shared values in facing the natural environment and the concept of ecological respect.
The sky garden covers an area of about 65,000 square meters. Its artistic design integrates agility and charm with cultural connotation, focusing on using artificial water systems and rare flowers and trees to create the wonderful artistic conception of ‘Jiangnan in freehand style’. The sky garden, with lush trees, water and stone landscapes, complements the magnificent scenery of the Qiantang River, making it an excellent place for rest and sightseeing during the conference.
The hall is open all year round from 09:00 to 17:00. It may be closed irregularly for temporary reception tasks or equipment maintenance.
