Gankeng Ancient Town is located in the Gankeng Community, Buji Street, Longgang District. With a rich history dating back over 350 years, Hakka settlers have been residing in Gankeng Village. Now, under the overall planning of Peking University Research Institute, it has been transformed into an ancient village featuring Hakka culture, integrating farming experiences and the charm of a water town. In 2014, it was the main venue of the Cultural Expo, showcasing Hakka culture in all aspects.

The scenic area is mainly divided into two parts: Gankeng Ancient Town and the Ecological Park. Gankeng Ancient Town features ancient buildings, watchtowers, shops and restaurants transformed from residential houses, and distinctive stilt houses by the lake. Notable attractions include the two-century-old Zhuangyuan Mansion and the exquisite Nanxiang Building with its carved beams and painted rafters.

The Ecological Park is planted with various pollution-free fruits and vegetables, and many domestic animals are raised. Visitors can not only appreciate the original ecological rural scenery but also pick fruits and vegetables themselves, which is quite enjoyable. Eating Hakka cuisine and local snacks is another highlight of the scenic area. Salt-baked chicken and Hakka casserole are representatives of Hakka cuisine, made more delicious with fresh ingredients and a must-try.
