Starting from Lan Kwai Fong in Central, walk along Snow Factory Street for 5 minutes and you will find an old street listed as a Hong Kong heritage site, Gas Lamp Street (Duddell Street). This place is home to the last remaining gas lamps in the entire city. Many films and TV dramas have been filmed here, capturing scenes of heartbreak, drunkenness, love, and sharing of secrets on these stone steps, making it a must-visit for fans of Hong Kong dramas.
Gas Lamp Street itself is a small street with only one end open to traffic. At the junction with Snow Factory Street, there is a granite staircase that connects to this street. On both sides of the stone steps, there stand four gas lamps, which are the only ones remaining in Hong Kong and are considered precious, having been designated as statutory monuments by the government. Nowadays, the gas lamps are lit from 6 pm to 6 am every day, serving as street lighting.

During the day, visitors can follow scenes from Hong Kong dramas and walk on the stone steps. The large tree canopy above shields the harsh sunlight, and at night, with the gas lamps lit, one can sit on the steps and enjoy the cool night breeze. Additionally, there is a very unique Starbucks located next to the steps. The store’s decor seems to take you back to the Hong Kong ice rooms of the 1960s and 1970s. Outside the window, there are old signs, old ceiling fans on the ceiling, and old ice room posters on the walls. The food and drinks served are a fusion of Chinese and Western cultures, which is very distinctive.
