Geleshan is located in the western suburbs of Chongqing, in Shapingba District, and is renowned nationwide for its wartime capital relics. Especially with the widespread dissemination of the novel ‘Red Rock’, Geleshan has become a heroic mountain. The mountain is covered with pine and cypress trees, and its valleys are serene and beautiful. It consists of three parts: Geleshan, ‘Linyuan’, and the Geleshan Martyrs Cemetery, making it a great place for Chongqing residents to relax on holidays and remember the revolutionary martyrs.
Geleshan got its name from the ancient gathering of Yu the Great with the lords at Mount Tu, where they sang and made music together, and it is known as the ‘First Peak of Western Chongqing, the Green Gem of the Mountain City’. It is one of the two ‘lungs’ of Chongqing City. The mountain has dozens of beautiful and tranquil natural landscapes such as ‘GeLe LingYin’, ‘YunDing Mist’, and ‘ShiFeng Seclusion’, making it a popular tourist destination in the Bashu area.

There are six ecological hiking trails on the mountain, distributed along the Geleshan sightseeing cableway and near Lie Ge Road. Walking through them, one can trace the rich historical and cultural connotations. The current Geleshan also has a large-scale outdoor rock climbing field in the southwest region – GeLe Climbing, and the Fairy Lake among the peaks is the fishing base of the Chongqing Fishing Association. In addition, there are forest climbing, aerial adventure mazes, forest off-road karting, and off-road mountain biking, among other leisure activities. Every weekend and holiday, this place is a good place for citizens to exercise and relax.

When visiting Geleshan, do not miss the approximately 900-meter-long sightseeing cableway, which goes directly from the foot of the mountain to the top. Sitting in the cableway basket, besides the greenery, you can also overlook the cityscapes of the Jialing River, Shapingba, Jiangzhong District, etc., which is very pleasant. (The sightseeing cableway is currently under maintenance and will be open according to the official announcement of the scenic spot.) Linyuan, located on Shuanghe Street of Geleshan, is a historical villa worth visiting.

The Geleshan Martyrs Cemetery is located at the foot of Geleshan at the former site of the ‘Sino-American Cooperative Office’ concentration camp. Upon entering the gate of the cemetery, a large relief sculpture ‘Immortal’ catches the eye, depicting the unyielding spirit of the revolutionary martyrs of that time. North of the relief is the exhibition hall, which reveals the dark and brutal inside story of the military統 concentration camp and the Sino-American Special Technical Cooperation Office with 490 pictures, 108 physical objects, and a half-scene painting of the ‘11.27’ massacre, detailing the struggles of many revolutionary martyrs who bravely and unyieldingly fought for the establishment of New China. The entire text is open all year round from 08:00 to 18:00.
