Inspired by classical mythology, Gianluca Crudele’s paintings are based on the duality of chaos and control, where the protagonists in his works engage in a powerful struggle with nature, chance, and destiny. This Italian artist’s narrative paintings often explore the conflict between authority and rebellion in classical texts, from the parable of the outlaw Zhi in the 4th-century Taoist classic Zhuangzi, to the omens before tragic fate in classical mythology. In his latest solo exhibition at Square Street Gallery, Crudele examines the story of Echo and Narcissus from Ovid’s Metamorphoses, integrating the ill-fated nymph into the turbulent landscapes of his works. The exhibition is open from October 10th to November 23rd, with specific business hours subject to the day’s opening status.
