The God of Wealth Temple is located at the foot of Luohanshan Mountain in Lingdong Village, Panyu District, Guangzhou. It is adjacent to Tanzhou Primary School. The temple is not very large, about 40 square meters. The hall where the God of Wealth is enshrined is only about 20 square meters. The entire temple has only one door. Above the door frame are three large characters ‘Du Tian Fu’. On the left and right are couplets that read ‘Fortune flows smoothly, diligence is fundamental; divine grace is widespread, virtue comes first’.
Above the three characters ‘Du Tian Fu’, there is a mural of ‘Three Stars Shining’. In front of the temple, there is an incense altar. On the incense altar are three incense burners with incense offered by pilgrims. On the roof above the incense altar, there are six long bamboo poles. Each pole is hung with coil incense, with as many as 30 coils. One coil of incense can burn for three months. Generally, each pilgrim lights three coils of incense a year. Entering the inner hall, facing is the statue of the God of Wealth. The statue of the God of Wealth is made of wood. Together with the altar, it is about two meters high. There are two boys scattering wealth on the left and right of the God of Wealth. In front of the God of Wealth is also an incense altar with two eternal lamps and a vase filled with fresh flowers. On the left and right walls of the temple are hung several sets of clothes worn by the God of Wealth. The God of Wealth Temple was built in the Tongzhi period of the Qing Dynasty. It was destroyed during the ‘Destroy the Four Olds’ movement in the Cultural Revolution. It was rebuilt in 1985. The incense is very prosperous. People around who want to get rich will come here to burn incense and worship the God of Wealth. Because there is only this one temple enshrining the God of Wealth in the entire Panyu District.
