Gounan Village is a village with an area of about 1.5 square kilometers in the northern suburbs of Shantou City. Currently, there are about 2,000 villagers living here, all surnamed Xu, so it is called Gounan Xudi. In ancient times, this village was named Zifulong. The ancestors migrated from Xuchang in the Central Plains to the area around Chaozhou. Until the tenth generation, Xu Zhaoji and Xu Honglie, father and son, came here to establish a foundation and have multiplied to this day. The famous historical novel and the adapted TV series “A Thousand Years of Family and Country Dreams” are completed based on the modern history of the Xu family. The natural scenery of Gounan Xudi is fresh and pleasant, and the cultural resources are rich. The Xu family also has many famous people, such as Xu Chongzhi, a pioneer of the 1911 Revolution, Xu Mengbang, a famous scholar of educational administration, Xu Zhuo, a revolutionary pioneer, Xu Huairen, a peasant leader, and Xu Guangping, the wife of Mr. Lu Xun. When tourists come here, in addition to commemorating the ancestors of the Xu family, they can also enjoy the magnificent ancestral halls, antique folk houses, and exquisite inlaid porcelain. All of these are treasures in Chaoshan traditional culture.
