The Guangdong Folk Arts Museum is located in Chen Clan Academy and was established in 1959. The museum site, Chen Clan Academy, is a joint clan temple jointly built by Chen clans from all over Guangdong in Guangzhou during the Qing Dynasty. In 1988, it was announced as a national key cultural relics protection unit by the State Council. Chen Clan Academy integrates various architectural decoration techniques in Lingnan region, including wood carving, brick carving, stone carving, pottery sculpture, lime sculpture, copper and iron casting and color painting. It is known as the ‘pearl of Lingnan architectural art’ and is a relatively large-scale, well-preserved and beautifully decorated ancestral temple-style building in China.
Opening hours: From April 15 to October 15, open from 09:00 to 18:00 on Mondays, Wednesdays to Sundays; closed all day on Tuesdays. From October 16 to December 31, open from 09:00 to 17:30 on Mondays, Wednesdays to Sundays; closed all day on Tuesdays.
