Guangdong Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine

The Guangdong Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine is located in the eastern corner of the beautiful Guangzhou University Town, within the campus of Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is a comprehensive university museum directly under Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Its predecessor was the specimen room and herb garden built by Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1956 and the Medical History Museum built in 1996.

In 2001, it was integrated into the ‘Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture’. To adapt to the development of traditional Chinese medicine and implement Guangdong Province’s strategy of building a ‘powerful province of traditional Chinese medicine’, it was officially renamed the Guangdong Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2006. The Guangdong Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine currently has a building area of 14,200 square meters, with 8,000 square meters of indoor exhibition halls and an additional 55,000 square meters of outdoor herb planting areas.

It houses more than 5,000 medical history relics and more than 2,400 kinds of specimens with over 10,000 bottles (portions). There are more than 2,200 kinds of herbs planted in the outdoor herb garden. Currently, there are indoor exhibition areas such as the medical history exhibition area, the specimen exhibition area, and the large-scale liquid immersion specimen exhibition area, as well as the popular science interaction area.

In addition to the outdoor herb planting areas such as ‘Yaowang Mountain’ and ‘Shizhen Mountain’, there are also scenic spots such as the wall of famous doctors in Lingnan and the sculpture of Zhang Zhongjing, the medical sage.
