Guangdong Provincial Sun Yat-sen Library, located on Wenming Road in Guangzhou City, is one of China’s large-scale comprehensive public libraries. The library is situated in a bustling yet tranquil area with convenient transportation.
Established in 1912, the library originated from the Ming Dynasty’s famous site ‘Nanyuan’ and later became the book storage building of the Guangya Academy in the Qing Dynasty. With a long history and rich collections, the library is well-known both domestically and internationally. Over the past century, the library’s collection has grown from tens of thousands of volumes to over six million volumes today. It has evolved from traditional manual card cataloging to computerized, networked, and digital management, developing distinct characteristics: 1. Rich collection of books and manuscripts, with a focus on local documents; 2. High-quality reader services, characterized by being open to the public and meeting reader needs to the greatest extent possible; 3. Advanced technological methods, aiming to achieve digital information resource sharing; 4. Active development of documents, aiming to establish a regional document information center; 5. Innovative service models, focusing on Guangdong’s mobile libraries and joint online reference consultations; 6. In-depth protection of ancient books, promoting the protection and utilization of ancient books throughout the province. Opening hours: Closed all day on Mondays; Open from 09:00 to 21:00 from Tuesdays to Sundays. Reader Service Center, Chinese newspaper reading room, and Chinese book lending room operate from 09:00 to 21:00 from Tuesdays to Sundays. Other service times: Registration office from 09:00 to 17:30 from Tuesdays to Sundays. Guangdong Donation Book Exchange Center, Chinese periodical lending area, and foreign book and periodical lending room from 09:00 to 17:00 from Tuesdays to Sundays.
