Guangguangshan Foguang Temple is located in the northwest direction of Huilai County, Guangdong Province. It is 17.3 kilometers away from the county seat and is located among the mountains between Luyang Village and Quxi Village, Xixi Town. It was originally named ‘Huangtenggang’, also known as ‘Huangtinggang’, and later renamed ‘Guangguangshan’. In the third year of Xuantong in the Qing Dynasty (1911), in August of the lunar calendar, the inscription on the stele was ‘Guangguangshan’. In 1997, it was renamed ‘Guangguangshan Foguang Temple’. In 2004, Foguang Temple was rated as ‘Civilized Religious Activity Place of Guangdong Provincial Party Committee’ by the Provincial Ethnic and Religious Affairs Committee. In October 2005, at the sincere invitation of the Huilai County Buddhist Association and the monks in the temple, the abbot of Nanhua Temple, Master Chuanzheng, officially served as the abbot of Foguang Temple.
