tricot 15th Anniversary CHINA TOUR 2025 marks the band’s first domestic ‘exclusive tour’ in China. This math rock band has caused ripples around the world with their exquisite playing skills, unique arrangements, unrestrained stage performances, sweet yet explosive vocals, and lyrics that blend literary and rational elements as brilliantly as their fan-favorite song ‘Do Not Mix, Dangerous’. Indeed, these elements are ‘Do Not Mix, Dangerous’. After tricot’s emergence, they have also redefined the aesthetic of math rock with a singing quality. As Rolling Stone magazine commented, ‘They keep exciting math rock evolving and coat it with a layer of pop elements’.
On the occasion of the band’s 15th anniversary, tricot returns after breaking into the mainstream! This performance is undoubtedly the best New Year’s gift for music fans. Band Introduction In 2010, tricot was formed in Kyoto, consisting of guitarist/vocalist Ikkyu (Nakajima Ikkyu), guitarist Kida (Kida Motof), and bassist Hiromi (Hiromi Hirohiro). From the beginning, the band was confident: ‘With these members together, we can do amazing things!’ ‘Kono Memba nara kirei na koto ga dekiru!’ In October 2013, tricot released their first full-length album ‘T H E’, which directly achieved 18th place on the Oricon chart. Soon after, the band performed at major Japanese music festivals such as FUJI ROCK, ROCK IN JAPAN, and RISING SUN ROCK FESTIVAL, making tricot’s reputation spread from domestic to international. Their unique playing style,赋予 unpredictable rhythms extremely pleasant melodies, and perfectly combines delicate and sweet vocals, creating a unique musical world that belongs to tricot! In 2014, tricot embarked on their first Asian and European tour, performing at the UK’s Eden Music Festival as guests of the famous American alternative rock band, Pixies. ‘A stunning debut’ is an overused phrase, but it fits: Who says complex rhythmic math rock is not suitable for sweet singing? The stage performance of these petite Eastern girls swept the eyes of music fans worldwide.In March 2015, tricot’s second album ‘A N D’ was released, and it also achieved the 34th place on the Oricon chart. In May of the same year, during the band’s Asian tour, their joint performance with the domestic math rock band ‘Chinese Football’ was the first meeting between domestic fans and tricot. In 2017, Yoshisuke Yoshida, the current drummer of the band, officially joined. tricot began to prepare for their third album ‘3’. On May 17 of the same year, the new album ‘3’ was officially released and once again achieved the 20th place on the Oricon chart. In recent years, the band’s many tours in Asia, the United States, Europe and other regions have all achieved unexpected success. They have an extremely cool magic that will make global independent music lovers instantly fall in love with this band! In 2019, when tricot was about to celebrate its 10th anniversary, the band decided to officially sign with Avex! Although under a major record company, Avex left them enough freedom and established a new label, 8902records, for them. At the beginning of 2020, the band’s first mainstream debut album – ‘Makkuro’ was officially released. tricot has stepped onto a broader stage! This is also the starting point for the popularity explosion of this band in China. Just like the novel works such as ‘Uchinoo’ in the album show, their creations can make people’s left and right brains dance in harmony, enjoying both rationality and sensibility! It really responds to the calls of fans: Once math rock counterattacks the mainstream stage, it will make everyone extremely excited! Since then, invitations for creating theme songs for various TV shows, Japanese dramas, and animations have followed one after another. In 2021, the band’s new album ‘Umakuchi’ (Chinese name: Well done) was released! Among them, the work ‘Inai’ (Chinese name: Absent) was selected as the opening song for the Japanese drama ‘Haru no Noroi’ (Chinese name: Spring Curse) on Tokyo TV. Later, the band created the opening song ‘End Roll ni Maniau Yō ni’ (Chinese name: In time for the end credits) for the Japanese drama ‘Liar’ in 2022. The most well-known to fans is the music-themed anime ‘Bocchi the Rock!’ that was very popular in China in 2022. Ikkyu, the lead singer of tricot, created the character work ‘Karakara’ for Yamada Ryō (the bassist in the band in the anime).
Such cross-domain cooperation has indeed brought many surprises to tricot. ‘Not Coming Out’ – Good or Bad | Only Now. At the end of 2022, tricot’s fourth major debut album ‘Not Coming Out’ was officially released! In the years when people couldn’t go out freely, the band accumulated a large amount of creative materials. While this album makes fans enjoy it greatly, they also put their deepest feelings during this period into this album. Whether it’s done well or not, the most important thing is only now. Perhaps in the eyes of ordinary fans, math rock is like unknowns xyz. Because of the complex and changeable rhythm, it is shrouded in mystery. But tricot’s music makes the complex structure as transparent and clear as crystal, clearly reflecting the pure natural colors of the core. In their creations, you can feel their sincere and interesting souls. Complicated numbers are not necessarily tools for building musical magic, but the most rational cognition can be a bridge for the most emotional expression. In May this year, the band’s lead singer, Ikkyu Nakajima, together with seven groups of musicians such as Utada Hikaru and Daoko, collaborated with Shiina Ringo on the new album ‘Release Meeting’. Such a combination is like pointing out a new direction for the development of pop music. In early October, tricot created a new work ‘Visit’ for the new anime ‘You Are Lord of the Underworld’. As Ikkyu Nakajima mentioned in the message: Two people with different lives start a new life because of the unexpected ‘visit’. tricot hopes to express ‘the strength and weakness that Miss Snow, who originally lived in loneliness, experienced in challenging ‘ordinary life” through this work.
