Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts is the only institution of higher learning for fine arts in South China. The student works exhibition hall of Xinsongyuan was established in 2002. Professor Zhang Zhian, then president, personally inscribed the name “Xinsongyuan”, representing the school’s Party and government and older generation of artists to encourage more new artistic pines to stand out and be tall and straight. In early 2005, the exhibition hall was relocated to the university town campus and is located in the front hall on the first floor of the gymnasium. This is a platform for displaying skills and exchanging emotions. It is also a space for ideological collisions and inspiration handovers. Since the opening of the Xinsongyuan exhibition hall, students’ enthusiasm for participating in exhibitions has been high. There are continuous exhibitions every week. On average, 15-20 exhibitions are held every semester. Each exhibition period is about one week.
