The Guangzhou International Finance Center (West Tower) is located in the core financial and business district of Zhujiang New Town. It integrates office, hotel, and leisure and entertainment. It is on the new central axis of the city. The project faces Zhujiang Avenue to the east, Huaxia Road to the west, Huajiu Road to the south, and Huacheng Avenue to the north. Surrounded by five-star hotels and office buildings, it forms one of the five landmark buildings in Zhujiang New Town together with the Guangdong Museum, Guangzhou Grand Theatre, Guangzhou Library, and Guangzhou No. 2 Children’s Palace. The design scheme of the Guangzhou International Finance Center was selected from among the 12 schemes collected in an international invitation competition organized by the Guangzhou Urban Planning Bureau in 2004. Its design concept is ‘transparent crystal’, and its goal is to make it a beautifully shaped and elegantly proportioned building, thus playing an important role in outlining the city’s skyline.
