The Guangzhou Liberation Memorial Statue stands in the center of Haizhu Square. It was sculpted in 1959 by the Guangzhou Municipal People’s Government in memory of the liberation of Guangzhou, and the sculptor is Yin Jichang. The memorial statue is carved from granite, with a square base that is 3.6 meters high and 4.3 meters on each side. The statue itself is 11.5 meters tall and faces north to south. The main figure is a People’s Liberation Army soldier, carrying a small bag of millet on his back, a holster gun on his left, a belt of bullets around his waist, holding a rifle in his right hand, and a bouquet of flowers in his left hand, standing tall and upright. The statue and its base are integrated into one, resembling a giant stone carved into a seal, stamped on the land of Guangzhou. Open all year round, accessible 24 hours a day.
