The Guangzhou Modern History Museum, also known as the Guangdong Revolutionary History Museum, is located within the Guangzhou Uprising Martyrs’ Cemetery. It is a comprehensive museum that showcases the history of the Guangzhou area over the past century.
The museum building was constructed in 1909 and was formerly the site of the late Qing Dynasty’s Guangdong Consultative Assembly. It is a Roman-style legislative building with an area of approximately 2400 square meters.
The museum currently features a large-scale exhibition titled ‘Modern Guangzhou,’ displaying over 800 pieces (sets) of cultural relics, more than 270 photographs, and employs various display methods such as sound, light, electricity, and multimedia to authentically recreate the history from the outbreak of the Opium War in 1840 to the liberation of Guangzhou in 1949.
