Guangzhou Shifu Church

Shifu Church is located at No. 54, Fengyuan Zhengjie, Longjin West Road (or Fengyuan Road), Liwan District. (Note: The original site is Fengyuan Church). It is close to the new Lychee Bay and Pantang Cultural and Leisure Area. In 1995, it was relocated here from the old site on Shifu Road. It covers an area of about 700 square meters and a building area of about 500 square meters.

Shifu Church originated from the British Methodist Church. In 1862, the first missionary to China, Pastor Laobeishi, purchased a large house with more than a thousand taels of silver on Shifu Road in Xiguan, Guangzhou, and renovated it into a gospel hall, which was the predecessor of Shifu Church. By 1929, when the road on Shifu Road was under construction, it had been renovated many times. Until 1934, it was overhauled again. Due to its long history and vicissitudes, the original Shifu Church was dilapidated and cracked. Although it was repeatedly repaired, the danger was still not eliminated. Under the overall arrangement of the Guangzhou Christian Council and the Three-Self Patriotic Movement Committee, it was relocated to the new church at No. 54, Fengyuan Zhengjie on December 26, 1995. No. 54, Fengyuan Zhengjie is the original site of Fengyuan Church. During the “Cultural Revolution”, it was leased as a production site. The government implemented religious policies and recovered the leased site with the assistance of the municipal religious affairs bureau. The municipal Christian Council and the Three-Self Patriotic Movement Committee negotiated with the Dongshan District Mingzhi Development Company. After various approval procedures, construction started in late July 1995. It is a six-story building, of which the first and second floors are the new Shifu Church, and the floors above the third floor are residential buildings.
