After Germany occupied Qingdao, it was named ‘Royal Qingdao Observatory’, hence the name ‘Guanxiang Mountain’. The astronomical dome is the first astronomical observation room designed and built by China itself. Although referred to as a mountain, it is more accurately described as a hilltop park. The area is not large, but the environment is serene and offers a distant view of Zhanqiao, Xiaoqingdao, and many ancient buildings with red tiles and green trees. The park is open all year round and accessible 24/7.
