The Guanyin Watching the Sea is a rock statue about 6 meters high and 2 meters wide. It is located in the rugged rock cluster on the upper right side of the release pond of Shengyan Temple, about 50 meters away from the Guanyin Hall. Looking up from the main hall of Shengyan Temple, the stone pillar is exactly like the holy statue of Avalokitesvara sitting on the lotus throne, with her eyes looking far into the passing ships in Taohua Port. Therefore, it is called ‘Guanyin Watching the Sea Stone’. Its shape is graceful and vivid. According to legend, Princess Miaoshan was so attached to the beautiful scenery on the mountain that she often looked at the sea view at the foot of the mountain and then turned into a rock, standing here forever and blessing the passing ships. Open all year round and all day.
