Gubeikou Ancient Town is located in the northeastern part of Miyun District, Beijing. As a renowned historical and cultural town in Beijing, its history dates back to the Warring States period when the State of Yan established Yuyang County and fortified Gubeikou. The Great Wall of the Qin and Han dynasties was built hundreds of miles north of Gubeikou. In the seventh year of the Tianbao era of the Northern Qi Dynasty (556 AD), the Great Wall was first constructed at Gubeikou.
After the establishment of the Ming Dynasty, to defend against the Mongol forces that retreated to the desert, Zhu Yuanzhang ordered Xu Da to repair the Great Wall at Gubeikou and other locations, strengthening border defense. In the mid-to-late Ming Dynasty, the famous anti-Japanese general Qi Jiguang was ordered to rebuild the Jizhou Great Wall, with Gubeikou being one of the important passes and an essential section of the Ming Great Wall. Gubeikou Ancient Town is home to many scenic spots, especially various temples, including the Yang Linggong Temple, Lu Zu Temple, Medicine King Temple, and Niangniang Temple, truly a garden of temples.
