Guia Fortress is situated atop the Guia Hill, which is the highest point of the Macau Peninsula. Constructed between 1637 and 1638, it features a sentry house and a lighthouse, among other structures. Ascending the spiral staircase to the top of the tower, one can enjoy a panoramic view of the entire Macau Peninsula and the ‘Historic Centre of Macau’, with its beautiful scenery spread out before the eyes. Adjacent to the lighthouse stands the Chapel of Our Lady of Snows. Originally, Guia Fortress was primarily used for defense against foreign invasions and as an observation post. It has long been designated as a military restricted area, with unauthorized access prohibited. In 1976, the fortress was opened to tourists and has since maintained its original appearance intact.
