Guia Fortress is located at the summit of Guia Hill, the highest point of the Macau Peninsula, built between 1637 and 1638, featuring a sentry house, lighthouse, and more. Ascending the spiral staircase to the top of the tower, one can overlook the entire Macau Peninsula and the ‘Historic Centre of Macau,’ with beautiful scenery at their fingertips. Adjacent to the lighthouse stands the Chapel of Our Lady of Snows. Originally, Guia Fortress was primarily used for defense against foreign invasions and as an observation post, and it was always listed as a military restricted area. In 1976, the fortress was opened to tourists and has since maintained its original appearance. Due to the significance of the Guia Fortress area as a military stronghold, there are numerous air-raid shelters built underground. Since 2003, these previously closed air-raid shelters have been extensively renovated and are now established as the ‘Song Shan Air-Raid Shelter Exhibition Gallery.’

Guia Lighthouse, an ancient lighthouse along the Chinese coast, was built in 1865, standing 13 meters tall with white walls and a red roof, exuding grandeur and strength. In September 1874, the lighthouse was damaged by a storm and was repaired and reactivated on June 29, 1910, continuing to function to this day. On clear nights, the lighthouse’s beam can be seen within a 20-mile radius around Macau. Near the lighthouse, one can also find typhoon signal markers. When typhoons approach, the Meteorological Bureau hangs corresponding typhoon signal markers on the fortress to alert citizens to prepare.
