The Guimen Mountain is located 35 kilometers southwest of Shengzhou City. Guimen Mountain was formerly called Lumen Mountain. Because Zhu Xi inscribed the two characters ‘Guimen’ here, Lumen was changed to Guimen. The Guimen Watchtower building can be divided into two parts. The east part is the watchtower and the west part is the Lumen Academy. The academy was founded by Lu Guishu, a scholar in the Southern Song Dynasty. The famous Neo-Confucianist Zhu Xi once gave lectures here. Zhu Xi’s inscription of ‘Guimen’ is engraved on the north gate. The watchtower was built by Lu Zujing, the son of Lu Guishu. The current building was renovated in the third year of Jiaqing in the Qing Dynasty (1798). There are also inscriptions at Meishu nearby, which were inscribed by Zhu Xi when he visited Lu Guishu. Open all year round and all day.
