The former British Consulate building on Gulangyu Island is a three-story red brick building with corners made of bricks and stones. The structure is rigorously square and precise, with floor-to-ceiling doors and windows equipped with louvers to regulate sunlight and shield against wind and sand. The building also features fireplaces.
According to research, this residence is a representative of the early colonial architectural style on Gulangyu Island. It is a product of Xiamen officially becoming a trading port after the Opium War and the signing of the Treaty of Nanking between China and the United Kingdom.
The opening hours are from January 1st to December 31st, open all day long.
