Gulangyu Island: A Tranquil and Beautiful Tourist Destination in Xiamen

Gulangyu Island is a serene and picturesque island that has become the de facto tourist card of Xiamen due to its unique scenery. The island boasts attractions such as Sunlight Rock, Shuzhuang Garden, and the Organ Museum. From within Sunlight Rock, one can overlook the entire island and take in the panoramic views. In addition to these, Gulangyu Island features a variety of architectural styles, including the Minnan architectural style of Haitian Construct, the Sino-Western fusion of Bagua Building, and the 19th-century European style of the National Consulates, earning it the nickname ‘World Architecture Expo’. Gulangyu Island is home to many boutique shops with artistic decor, perfect for photography.
Open all year round, the island is accessible 24/7. (1) Daytime routes: The incoming ferry operates from 8:10 to 17:30, with boats departing every hour at 10 and 30 minutes past the hour; the outgoing ferry operates from 7:40 to 17:40, with boats departing at the hour and 40 minutes past the hour. (2) Night routes: The Sanqiutian Wharf outgoing ferry operates from 18:00 to 24:00. From 00:00 to 5:00, visitors needing to leave the island should return from the Piano Wharf to the Ferry Wharf (boats depart on the hour); from 5:30 to 7:00, return from Sanqiutian Wharf to the Ferry Wharf (ferry schedule remains unchanged, see the ferry company’s official website for details).


(3) Any additional routes or schedule adjustments will be based on notifications from the ferry company’s official website.



Preferential policies include: Minors aged 6 to 18 (inclusive) enjoy half-price tickets (with ID card or household registration book); seniors aged 60 to 70 (inclusive) enjoy half-price tickets (with valid ID); those aged 70 and above (inclusive) enjoy free entry (with valid ID); Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan youth (with ‘Hong Kong and Macao Residents Traveling to Mainland Pass’ or ‘Taiwan Residents Traveling to Mainland Pass’) enjoy half-price tickets; disabled persons (with ‘Disability Certificate’ or ‘Disabled Soldier Certificate’) enjoy free entry; full-time undergraduate students and below (with student ID or other valid documents) enjoy half-price tickets; military personnel and firefighters (with valid IDs) enjoy free entry; children aged 6 and below or under 1.

Additional note: Preferential policies apply only to the five major scenic spots of Gulangyu Island: International Calligraphy Art Museum, Sunlight Rock, Haoyue Garden, Organ Museum, and Shuzhuang Garden.

Island transportation: The reference price for the Gulangyu sightseeing bus island loop line is ¥50 per person, and the interval line prices vary from ¥20, ¥30, to ¥40 depending on the distance between stations; Address: Left side of the Piano Wharf.


Bathrooms: There are multiple bathrooms on the island, located near the entry point and main roads, with clear signs.

There are many farmhouses and restaurants in the scenic area, with obvious signs. Alipay/WeChat payment is available.

Numerous shops on the island sell souvenirs.

There are multiple vending machines within the scenic area, located near venues such as the main road and beside Xiamen Underwater World. Alipay/WeChat payment is available.
