Gulangyu Wonderful World is a natural science museum and a popular science exhibition venue integrating astronomy, geography, culture and nature. It showcases Minnan culture and art, as well as various strange animals and specimens.
The museum is divided into three parts: Minnan Culture Art Museum, Rare and Exotic Animals Museum, and Global Wonders Museum.
At the Minnan Culture Art Museum, the traditional show is Minnan cloth bag puppet show. The cloth bag puppets can not only hold and drink from a cup, but also offer cigarettes, light them up and puff. They can perform acrobatics like carrying a tray, balancing a pot, twirling a stick and performing martial arts moves with silk. In the traditional lion dance, they are lively and vivid. Folk artists play gongs and drums and dance gracefully. The puppets imitate human actions with both expressions and movements, vividly showing singing, reciting, acting and fighting, as well as emotions of joy, anger, sorrow and happiness, which is really amazing.
The Rare and Exotic Animals Museum has nearly a hundred kinds of rare pets such as two-headed three-eyed pigs, three-legged chickens, dancing mice, bird eggs, horned toads, chinchillas, Pikachus, sleeve dogs, human-faced eagles, two-tailed lizards, ET lizards, etc.
The Butterfly and Insect Museum has more than 300 kinds of insects and butterflies, including four-foot beehives, hermaphrodite butterflies, and butterfly chameleons (dead leaf butterflies).
The Global Wonders Museum has deep-sea dragon king fish, white-haired magic stones, legendary snowmen in the Himalayas, shrunken heads from the Amazon River, legendary mermaids, cute mummy cats, human bone prayer beads, fifty-jin big shells, night pearls, kapalas, six-foot shark swords, etc.
