Situated approximately 8 kilometers northwest of Qi County in the Taihang Mountains is the Guling Mountain Scenic Area.
This scenic area is renowned for its numerous mythological tales. According to local folklore, Guling Mountain is the place where the human progenitor, Nuwa, refined stones to mend the sky and shaped clay into humans. The Nuwa Palace, where King Zhou of Shang from the novel ‘Investiture of the Gods’ offered incense, is also located within this mountain. These beautiful legends add much charm to the scenic area.
Tourists visiting the area can see many attractions related to these legends, such as Nuwa Peak, Nuwa Palace, and Chaoyang Temple. Nuwa Peak is a natural landscape, believed to be the embodiment of Nuwa’s residence on earth, resembling a human figure from a distance. Nuwa Palace is the place where King Zhou of Shang worshipped in the novel ‘Investiture of the Gods’. Chaoyang Temple is rumored to have been the winter residence of King Zhou and his consort Daji.
In addition to these mythologically colored attractions, there is a ‘Bronze Summit’ on the top of Xuanwu Mountain within the scenic area. This is a later-built Taoist temple named after its copper-tiled roof. The temple enshrines the Taoist deity, the Great Emperor of the North. From the Bronze Summit, one can enjoy a panoramic view of Guling Mountain and the grandeur of the Taihang Mountains.
Several halls, including the Hall of Nine Ancestors, are built on the Bronze Summit. Inside the Hall of Nine Ancestors, there are nine golden copper statues of the nine ancestors (Pangu, the Three Sovereigns, and the Five Emperors).
