Guozhuang, nestled on the west bank of West Lake along Yanggong Causeway, is adjacent to Quyuan Wind and Lotus and represents a quaint Jiangnan garden. Constructed in 1907, the garden is named after the汾阳 Guo family who once resided here. Despite its modest size, Guozhuang boasts rockeries, ponds, and pavilions, ingeniously incorporating the scenery of West Lake, making it an excellent spot for tea tasting and sightseeing.
The garden is centered around a pond, with the first area upon entry being ‘Jingxin Residence,’ once the master’s living and receiving area. Beyond this lies the pond, fed by West Lake’s waters, surrounded by winding corridors and rockeries, and featuring pavilions such as ‘Liangyi Xuan,’ ‘Shanxin Yuemu,’ and ‘Jingsu Pavilion.’ In autumn, the corridors are adorned with chrysanthemums, and red and yellow fallen leaves scatter across the pond, creating a poetic atmosphere.
Guozhuang faces Su Causeway, with fewer tourists, allowing visitors to sit on the platform overlooking West Lake, enjoy tea and conversation, and take in the distant mountains and Leifeng Pagoda, a truly enjoyable experience. Every summer, the lake’s blooming lotuses are a sight to behold, with the lake breeze providing a refreshing coolness.
Opening Hours: 08:00-17:00 all year round.
