Gushan Scenic Area is located in the eastern suburbs of Fuzhou, on the north bank of the Minjiang River. It can be regarded as a well-known scenic spot in Fuzhou. It got its name because there is a huge rock on the top of the mountain that resembles a drum. Whenever there is a storm, there will be a rumbling sound.
There is no entrance fee to climb Gushan. There are several paths leading from the foot of the mountain to the top. If you want to build up your body, it is recommended to take the ancient stone step path opened between the road and the cableway. There is a pavilion for rest at intervals along the ancient path. There are numerous cliff inscriptions along the way, making it a great place for physical exercise.

Gushan has always been a Buddhist resort in Fuzhou. Yongquan Temple on the halfway up the mountain is an important scenic spot on Gushan. Walking up along the ancient stone step path, which winds for more than 1,800 meters, passing through seven pavilions and then entering the mountain gate, you can directly reach Yongquan Temple. It takes about an hour to climb to Yongquan Temple. The ticket office of Gushan is also located here. If you want to enter Yongquan Temple, you need to buy a ticket. The temple has strong incense, and the buildings are magnificent. The thousand-year-old cycad, the chicken-wire wood altar table and the blood scriptures in the temple are collectively called the “Three Treasures” of the mountain.

If you have enough time to go down the mountain, you can return by the same route. If you are really lazy, you can also take the cable car down the mountain. However, since the mountain is not very high, it is not recommended. It is still advisable to walk and get some exercise. If you return by the same route, you can drop by to see the Eighteen Scenes of Damo Cave on Gushan.
