Designed by the renowned architect Mr. Zheng Zhenkun from Qiongshan, Hai Rui’s Former Residence was constructed based on its original appearance and in accordance with the architectural style of Hainan during the Ming Dynasty. It was built by Mr. Luo Shu Fu, a descendant of Hai Rui, with funding from Qiongshan County Government and Fucheng Town Government, as well as donations from various individuals. The entrance features an archway-style gate, with a wooden plaque hanging in the center that reads ‘Hai Rui’s Former Residence’, and above it, a plaque inscribed with ‘Yue Dong Zheng Qi’. Upon entering the gate, one sees the front and back main halls, both consisting of one hall and two rooms. Adjacent to the main halls are side buildings, housing a study, exhibition hall, drawing room, and miscellaneous rooms. The main hall features a ten-column beam structure with stone walls on all sides, an eave height of 3.6 meters, and all ten columns are made of imported坤甸wood. The rafters are entirely made of imported 梢wood, and the partitions are meticulously crafted from Hainan’s specialty ironwood and 抱密wood. The surrounding walls are 154 meters long and 2.2 meters high, adorned with bamboo windows. The site is open all year round from Monday, Wednesday to Sunday, 08:00 to 18:00; closed on Tuesdays for maintenance (except national holidays).
