It is often said that ‘When you come to Hui, you must visit Shen. When you visit Shen, you must observe the spring. When you observe the spring, you must appreciate the couplets.’ The’spring’ here refers to ‘Haijiao Ganquan’. In the Song Dynasty about 800 years ago, the ancient town of Shenquan was still a small island surrounded by water on all sides. However, a spring was unexpectedly found on the seaside beach.
Despite the ebb and flow of the tide and immersion in brine, everywhere is salty water. Only this spring is extraordinarily sweet, becoming a major wonder at the cape and also benefiting local fishermen.
