Haikou Port’s Xinhai District is a specialized, large-scale, intensive, and modern port area for the passenger and cargo ro-ro transportation across the Qiongzhou Strait. It is set to become a comprehensive transportation hub for the province, a center for land-island transportation, and a cluster area for modern port-related services. The completion of the Xinhai District not only achieves the relocation of the ferry business from Xiuying Port, reducing the impact of port logistics on the traffic of the main urban area, but also creates a modern professional passenger and cargo ro-ro transportation port area, significantly enhancing the port’s infrastructure. Furthermore, with the completion of the Nanshan Port passenger and cargo ro-ro terminal on the other side of the strait in Xuwen Port, Zhanjiang Port, the ferry transportation distance across the Qiongzhou Strait is reduced from 18 nautical miles to 12 nautical miles, and the passenger crossing time will be reduced to 1 hour, making cross-strait travel more convenient and faster for people on both sides. The port is open all year round, 24/7, with specific business hours subject to the daily opening status.
