Haikou People’s Park is a popular public park where visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the East and West Lakes within the garden. Surrounded by coconut groves along the lakeshores, the pavilions on the island in the middle of the lake are resplendent with gold and jade.
The park also features a zoo, where one can observe a variety of tropical and subtropical animals. A newly built amusement park within the grounds has attracted a large number of children. Haikou People’s Park is divided into several functional areas, including the East and West Lake tour area, the Martyrs’ Memorial area, the tropical plant specimen area, the quiet rest area, the orchid garden, the animal area, and the living area. The Hainan Liberation Monument stands at the main entrance of the park, on top of Daying Mountain, built in 1954 to commemorate the martyrs who heroically sacrificed themselves in the long struggle for revolution on Qiong Island and during the sea crossing battles. Inside the park, there is also a statue of General Feng Baiju and the Feng Baiju Memorial Pavilion. General Feng Baiju was the core leader of the Qiongya Party organization.
