The Hainan Provincial Library is located in the Culture Park on Guoxing Avenue, Haikou City, Hainan Province, known for its tranquil environment. It began construction on December 13, 2003, and spans five floors with a construction area of 28,000 square meters. Officially inaugurated on February 2, 2007, it is one of the younger provincial public libraries in China and an important public cultural facility in Hainan Province. It officially opened to the public on October 28, 2007.
The library is equipped with various departments including the Office, Business Management Department, Acquisition and Cataloguing Department, Lending and Collections Department, Network Department, Local Documents and Ancient Books Department, Children’s Department, National Cultural Information Resources Sharing Project Hainan Branch, Hainan Ancient Books Protection Center, Hainan Library Association, and Hainan Library Union Cataloging Center.
It offers a range of reader service areas such as the General Service Area, Social Science Book Area, Comprehensive Book Area, Newspapers and Periodicals Area, Local Documents Area, Children’s Public Electronic Reading Room, Public Electronic Reading Room, Government Information Public Inquiry Center, Visually Impaired Reading Room, Children’s Scenario Experience Area, Children’s Art Training Activity Room, Computer Classroom, 24-hour Self-Service Book Return Area, and 24-hour Self-Service Library. The reading area covers 14,000 square meters.
Opening hours are as follows: Monday-Thursday and Saturday-Sunday from 09:00 to 20:30; Friday from 09:00 to 12:00. The Music Audio-Visual Reading Room operates from 09:00 to 12:00 and 14:30 to 18:00, with Friday operating from 09:00 to 12:00 and weekends from 09:00 to 20:30. The Comprehensive Book Reading Room is open from 09:00 to 12:00 and 14:30 to 18:00, with Friday from 09:00 to 12:00 (closed on public holidays). The Ancient Books Reading Area is open from 09:00 to 12:00 and 14:30 to 18:00, with Friday from 09:00 to 12:00 (closed on weekends and public holidays). The Reading Space is open from 09:00 to 24:00, and the 24-hour Self-Service Library is open around the clock. Please refer to the daily opening status for specific business hours.
