Opened in 2008, the Hainan Provincial Museum is one of the younger provincial museums and the only comprehensive modern museum in Hainan Province. It houses national treasure artifacts such as the ‘Yue King Qibei Bronze Ancient Sword’, ‘Tang Sancai Standing Horse Figurine’, and ‘Song Qingbai Glaze Flower Mouth Phoenix Head Pot’. The museum features four basic exhibitions: ‘Hainan Collection’, ‘History of Hainan’, ‘Hainan Ethnic Minorities’, and ‘Hainan Intangible Cultural Heritage’. For those interested in historical culture, it is worth a visit.
The exhibition hall is divided into three floors, with the first floor typically serving as a temporary exhibition area. The second floor is the highlight, showcasing the ‘Hainan Collection Exhibition’, which displays nearly a hundred pieces of bronze ware, ceramics, and calligraphy and painting works, serving as an important testament to Hainan’s history and culture. The museum’s three prized artifacts, the ‘Yue King Qibei Bronze Ancient Sword’, ‘Tang Sancai Standing Horse Figurine’, and ‘Song Qingbai Glaze Flower Mouth Phoenix Head Pot’, are all national treasures worth nearly a hundred million yuan, gifted by the National Cultural Relics Bureau, with the Qibei Bronze Ancient Sword being particularly valuable.
The ‘History of Hainan Exhibition’ is also located on the second floor, presenting the main processes and basic patterns of Hainan’s historical development through different eras, providing an in-depth understanding of Hainan’s history. The exhibitions on ‘Hainan Ethnic Minorities’ and ‘Hainan Intangible Cultural Heritage’ are on the third floor. The former showcases the simple and honest customs of Hainan’s ethnic minorities, including the Li, Miao, and Hui peoples. The latter features Hainan’s intangible cultural heritage, such as the weaving and embroidery of the Li and Miao people, as well as performing arts like the Li’s firewood chopping dance and Yazhou folk songs, offering detailed and enlightening insights.
