The Hainan Sea World Shell Culture Museum is a characteristic museum located in Hainan Flower World on Binjiang Road, Qiongshan District, Haikou City, Hainan Province. It focuses on the display and dissemination of shell culture. The museum houses rare shells from the South China Sea and at home and abroad. The exhibits are rich and diverse, including shell specimens, shell carving crafts, shell carving paintings, mother-of-pearl inlay crafts, etc. These exhibits not only show the natural beauty of shells but also reflect the profound origin between humans and shell culture. The exhibition content of the museum is exquisitely designed and is divided into six major themes, including ‘Marine Ecology and Marine Mollusks’, ‘Evolutionary History of Marine Mollusks’, ‘Marine Mollusks and Human Civilization’, ‘Applications of Marine Mollusks’, ‘Marine Biology and Economic Development’, and ‘Protection and Construction of Marine Ecological Civilization’. Through modern means such as sound, light, electricity, and VR demonstrations, submarine mountain and rock scene simulation, ground-touch interactive induction projection, and multimedia video display are realized, leading the audience to integrate into the marine world and feel the magnificence and magic of shells. Entering the museum, the audience will first be attracted by the circular booth at the entrance. Here, the physiological structure of marine mollusks is displayed, helping everyone understand the functions of various organs of mollusks from an anatomical perspective. Subsequently, the audience will step into a spacious and bright exhibition hall where large and small, colorful shells are displayed, as if being in a dreamy underwater world. In addition, the museum also pays attention to interactive experience with the audience. Through simulated scenes, interactive projections and other methods, the audience can understand shell culture more deeply.
