The Hainan Tropical Wildlife Park and Botanical Garden is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction that integrates rare wildlife and plant science popularization, conservation breeding, sightseeing tourism, and leisure vacation. It is a panoramic natural museum that showcases the island-type tropical rainforest ecosystem and the essence of Hainan Island’s flora and fauna. Established in 1995, the park is located in the picturesque Dongshan Lake area of Xiuying District, Haikou City, just 27 kilometers away from the city center.

The park covers an area of over 1500 acres (with the animal viewing area alone totaling 1300 acres), and is home to more than 100 species of rare birds and animals, totaling over 2000 individuals; it also features 280 families and over 1000 varieties of rare tropical plants, with a tropical forest coverage rate as high as 99%. Entering the park feels like stepping into a natural ‘oxygen bar’; touring the park is akin to enjoying a delightful ‘forest bath’.

The park’s landscapes are purely natural, with vast forests and dense vegetation providing a favorable habitat for animals. The artificially created jungle trails and a variety of exotic flowers and plants make visitors feel as if they are in a vibrant and fragrant natural environment, entering a colorful and thrilling jungle animal world.

The park is mainly divided into a vehicle tour area and a walking tour area. The vehicle tour area changes the traditional urban zoo’s high walls and iron cages, allowing various predators to roam freely. Tourists can drive through the vehicle tour area to fully experience the wonderful feeling of ‘people in cages and animals outside’. The park’s star animals include: national treasure giant pandas, Hainan sambar deer, Asian elephants, giraffes, African lions, Northeast tigers, liger, white-cheeked gibbons, black bears, Pere David’s deer, macaques, hippos, black swans, flamingos, and more.

The park’s flamingo restaurant covers an area of 1600 square meters and can accommodate more than 600 people dining at the same time. The ingredients of the dishes in the restaurant are not only fresh but also natural green food, mainly featuring local Hainan cuisine.
