Haiyang County Confucian Temple, commonly known as the School Palace, is located at the west end of Changli Road in Chaozhou City. According to the Qing Dynasty’s ‘Chaozhou Prefecture Chronicles’, the county Confucian Temple was originally situated to the west of the prefecture government, attached to the right side of the county school. During the Song Dynasty’s Shaoxing era (1100 AD), the county magistrate Chen Tan relocated it to Jinfang (the present site). Subsequent generations have repeatedly expanded and renovated it, making Haiyang County Confucian Temple a grand and well-preserved complex of ancient buildings. However, due to historical changes, the existing area of the School Palace is only 4000 square meters, with the main structures including the Lingxing Gate, the Banchi Pond, the two-wing rooms, the Dacheng Gate, and the Dacheng Hall. The Dacheng Hall is the primary building of Haiyang County Confucian Temple and still retains the architectural customs of the Ming Dynasty, featuring double eaves and a hip roof, with five spans to the west and four depths, and a gold box and fighting bottom column network layout. It is open all year round from 08:00 to 17:00.
