On the rock on the left side of Baoshu Pagoda is the Laifeng Pavilion constructed under the leadership of Li Wei, governor of Zhejiang Province in the Qing Dynasty. Walking westward from here, it is a ‘valley between two mountains’. After passing through more than 30 meters of winding, undulating steps, the large mountain rock on the side of the West Lake is Hamatop Peak. Baoshi Mountain is 78 meters above sea level. Looking down at the West Lake and the scenery of Hangzhou from the east, south, and north sides here, it is a place with good viewing effects among the surrounding mountains of the West Lake. Hamatop Peak is bare and there is no way to climb up. One can only climb up by using both hands and feet. Many tourists like to climb onto the huge rock and jump around on it to show their physique and courage. The surface of the mountain rock is eroded by rain into uneven bumps, resembling the rough epidermis of a toad. Some people say that Hamatop Peak gets its name for this reason. Others say that Hamatop Peak gets its name because when viewed from Xiling Bridge, it looks like a toad facing the sky. Open all year round, open all day.
