Han Yu Ancestral Temple

The Han Yu Ancestral Temple in Chaozhou was built in memory of Han Yu, a writer and thinker in the Tang Dynasty. It was first built in the second year of Xianping in the Song Dynasty (999 AD). It is currently one of the Han Yu Ancestral Temples with a relatively long history in China. The Han Yu Ancestral Temple is located near mountains and rivers. Inside the temple are records of the history of the Han Temple, Han Yu’s achievements in governing Chaozhou, and poems praising the Han Temple.


Climbing up to the Langzhong Pavilion, you can also enjoy the beautiful scenery of Chaozhou. Han Yu served as the governor of Chaozhou for less than eight months. During this period, he drove out evils and eliminated corrupt practices, supported agriculture and mulberry cultivation, redeemed and freed slaves, and promoted education. He made outstanding contributions to the development of Chaozhou and also won the respect and remembrance of the people of Chaozhou.
