The Han Yu Memorial Temple in Chaozhou is a historical site dedicated to the memory of Han Yu, a prominent literary figure and thinker from the Tang Dynasty. First constructed in the second year of the Xianping era of the Song Dynasty (AD 999), it is one of the oldest Han Yu memorial temples in China.
Situated amidst mountains and water, the temple chronicles the history of the Han Yu temple, Han Yu’s achievements in governing Chaozhou, and poetry and literature in praise of the temple. Climbing to the Shilang Pavilion offers a panoramic view of the beautiful scenery of Chaozhou.

During his tenure as the governor of Chaozhou, which lasted less than eight months, Han Yu made significant contributions to the development of Chaozhou by eradicating evils, supporting agriculture and sericulture, redeeming and releasing slaves, and promoting education. His efforts earned him the admiration and remembrance of the people of Chaozhou.


The temple is open year-round from Tuesday to Sunday, 08:30 AM to 05:00 PM; closed all day on Mondays; and open on New Year’s Day, Spring Festival, Qingming Festival, Labor Day, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, and National Day, 08:30 AM to 05:00 PM.
