When we are confronted with the massive waves of an entire era, everything feels powerless, from helplessness to nothingness. All meaning seems to vanish, with efforts, resilience, and even negativity losing their significance. When you are but a grain of sand, everything becomes void. This is the first dilemma that all clear-minded individuals face when voicing their discontent with the world.
It is said that there is nothing new under the sun. However, the concept of this album, born in 2022, undoubtedly possesses a unique temperament of its time—the distinct emotions brought about by the alternating presence of hope and disappointment. What we are narrating is that our helplessness and panic at the age of 20 hold significance. Haruki Murakami once said, ‘Then I suddenly realized I was twenty years old. This sudden realization left me somewhat at a loss. Before that, I had thought that after eighteen comes nineteen, and after nineteen comes eighteen, and so on.’ Growing up is an inevitable journey for humans, and becoming the person you aspire to be or even the person you despise the most is a glorious transformation worth commemorating. Our dreams when entering society hold meaning; the world is full of stones charging towards the river. So, when you sink to the riverbed, do not panic or feel disappointed, for it is covered with stones. The world becomes better because of the countless individuals who, at the time, seemed to be futilely charging like a mantis trying to stop a chariot. We are meaningful. Every single person, even a grain of sand or a stone, becomes filled with significance due to their existence and continued presence. I mean—actually, I do not want to say that we are the ‘Lost Generation.’ At least the individuals around me, we should be called the ‘Disappointed Generation.’ No one is born to be tamed like an ox; everyone has had their own small charge, with different outcomes but consistent experiences. We depict stories of failure and reasons for disappointment, not to proclaim that this is the entirety of life, but to try to clearly describe their appearance.
