Established in 1958, Hangzhou Library was originally located at No. 6 Jianrenli on Qingnian Road, moved to No. 254 Huansha Road in 1986, and relocated to No. 58 Jiefang East Road in 2008. In a city known for its beautiful scenery and rich cultural heritage, surrounded by famous landmarks such as West Lake, Leifeng Pagoda, and Lingyin Temple, the modern Hangzhou Library’s new building may seem modest in comparison.

However, this seemingly ‘modest’ library creates an enchanting reading atmosphere with its unique decoration style; innovates the library reading experience with its first-class facilities; and enhances the quality of life for Hangzhou citizens with its considerate and diverse services. The library houses a collection of 4.38 million volumes of various documents, including books, newspapers, magazines, special collections, audio-visual documents, and database resources, covering all academic disciplines, and has gradually formed a collection system characterized by literature, history, philosophy, art, law, tourism, economics, education, and music.

Hangzhou Library has a leading domestic automation service system, providing a sufficient number of information inquiry devices on each floor, and is the first library in China to cover the entire building with wireless broadband network. Readers can enjoy network services and use various digital resources flexibly and conveniently anywhere and anytime in the library as long as they carry a laptop with a wireless card or have a mobile phone or PDA with Wi-Fi functionality.
