The West Lake Scenic Area in Hangzhou is a national 5A-level tourist attraction, located near No. 71-1, Longjing Road. The lake and mountains and numerous historical sites in the scenic area are famous at home and abroad and are known as a paradise on earth. The mountains in the scenic area are all no more than 400 meters high. The total area of the scenic area is 49 square kilometers. With the lake as the main body, it was formerly known as Wulinshui, Qiantang Lake, and Xizi Lake.
It was first called West Lake in the Song Dynasty. It is composed of a large number of trees and shrubs to form sparse and well-proportioned spaces of different sizes. It is mainly landscaped by plants, supplemented by pavilions, terraces, buildings, lofts, corridors, pavilions, bridges, and sandbars. West Lake flourishes by Hangzhou, and Hangzhou is famous because of West Lake. On June 24, 2011, ‘West Lake Cultural Landscape in Hangzhou, China’ was officially included in the World Heritage List.
