He Mijian Ancestral Hall is located on Liuting Island, within the picturesque and tranquil Yuehu Scenic Area in Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province. It is bordered by the Lay Buddhist Grove to the east, Liuting Street to the south, and embraced by Yuehu Lake on the northwest sides.

The temple was built in memory of He Zhizhang, a poet from the Tang Dynasty, known as the ‘Four Ming Madman’. His poem ‘A Casual Return to My Hometown’, with the verses ‘Little did I leave home, old have I come back; unchanged is the local accent, but my hair is grey. Children meet me, not recognizing me; they laugh and ask where I come from.’, vividly portrays the deep emotions of an old man returning to his hometown after a long absence, making it a well-known and beloved poem passed down through the generations.

He Zhizhang once served as an official in Mingzhou and was highly revered by the people. There were several sites in Ningbo commemorating He Zhizhang, but now only He Mijian Ancestral Hall on Yuehu Liuting remains.

The hall is closed all day on Mondays throughout the year; and opens from 09:00 to 11:30 and 13:30 to 16:30 from Tuesdays to Sundays.
